Countywide Cemetery Preservation Digital Photo Project
This is an on-going project that started in 2008 and involves each of the county's 80+ cemeteries. The Kosciusko County Historical Society is photographing each gravestone, marking each location for Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping purposes, and entering data (birth, Death and other text) into a database.
This database is currently accessible via Kosciusko County's Beacon web site. As of April 1, 2013 photos and text from 75 cemeteries are available for viewing.
This project is supported by a core group of volunteers, along with financial support from KCHS, The Kosciusko County Community Foundation, The Esther Pfleiderer Trust, Dr. Dane & Mary Louise Miller Foundation, Frank I. and Irene List Saemann Foundation, Hand Family Foundation, Kenneth and Lela Harkless Foundation, The City of Warsaw, and interested individuals. Thank you all!
Our thanks are also extended to our Kosciusko County government for allowing our project to lease data storage on the Beacon System.
We also extend special thanks to our project consultant, Mr. Bill Holder, Kosciusko County GIS Director. We are grateful to have Bill leading our efforts and note that his involvement is independent of his county employment responsibilities. Thank you Bill.
